The founder
Nearly five decades
devoted to cancer care.
Dr. C. P. Mathew, MBBS, MS, DMR, was a pioneering oncologist from Kerala who dedicated nearly five decades to cancer care. Born on 2 September 1929 in Chirakkakadavu, Kottayam, he completed his MBBS at Madras Medical College in 1954, followed by postgraduate training in radiation and surgery.
He served at major government medical colleges across Kerala, including Trivandrum, Calicut, and Kottayam Medical Colleges, eventually retiring as Vice-Principal of Kottayam Medical College. He was among the early pioneers of brachytherapy in India and advocated innovative approaches combining radiation and chemotherapy in cancer treatment.
After retiring from government service in 1986, Dr. C. P. Mathew devoted himself to studying Ayurveda, Siddha, Homeopathy, Vedas, and other traditional systems of medicine. He developed an integrative approach to cancer care, documenting thousands of patient cases at his home clinic.
Despite criticism and opposition from sections of the medical community, he continued treating patients and advocating research into integrative cancer care. From 2003, he also provided consultations at Cherian Ashram in Kottayam, where his work and patient records continue to be preserved.
Dr. C. P. Mathew passed away after a lifetime of dedicated service to cancer care. His life remains a story of dedication, curiosity, unconventional thinking, and an unwavering commitment to finding hope for patients who had exhausted conventional treatment options.
